Trying to set Thunderbird up as an email client (my situation requires apps for Mac and Android), but I cannot get any accounts to take.

It finds my server settings, which align with the instructions I have from those servers, but credentials then fail ("Login to account XXXXXX failed"). I'm logging in on other clients or web with the same credentials with no problem.

Thunderbird version 128.6.1esr (MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1)

I've been using Thunderbird on this Win 10 Pro machine for about a year, and nothing has changed lately but a few days ago began receiving "Unable to write the email..." error message. Yahoo Mail is my mail provider. I've not had any luck after trying the following:

Running Thunderbird Version 115.18.0 on Win 10 Pro Checked security (have rights for everything) Checked diskspace (over 50GB free) Checked for disk errors (none) Deleted several emails via server (so not a problem with a particular msg) Verified all AccountSettings are correct Added exception in AV software for Thunderbird Disabled all AV software Ran TB as Administrator Enabled outdated security protocols TLS 1.0 (and then reset to 3) Added Thunderbird.exe to Firewall ‘exception list’

Sure would appreciate some other suggestions to get this resolved as I have an extensive library of messages I'd like to keep in Thunderbird.

You don't even provide an option in your topic inquiry. I'm trying to uninstall per the Mozilla instructions to change to another version of Thunderbird. Apparently Mozilla has no interest in helping.006590

I have 3 computers all running the latest version of Thunderbird. All are setup to access gmail via imap with Oauth type authentication. I was away and didn't use one of the computers for a month. On this computer, when I try to download messages, I get a Google pop-up asking me to allow Thunderbird access. I click on ALLOW but then get a message on Thunderbird "authentication failure on incoming server imap:gmail.com" I have tried copying the App/roaming/thunderbird "settings" folder from a working computer to this one but that didn't do anything. I have tried setting up a different existing gmail address in File/New but this one had the same issue. When setting this up, I tried leaving the password field blank and also tried by putting in the correct password to that gmail address. I am out of ideas and would sure appreciate some help!!!

I had an association G-mail account until mid January, when I resigned my post as president and resigned from the organization. They changed the password on the account, after which I deleted the account from Thunderbird and from my computer.

Now, whenever Thunderbird is loaded (and only when it's loaded) I get a reminder every half hour or so that the account is inaccessible. It shows up in a Thunderbird window that can only be deleted -- no other action is allowed. It also offers no other remedy than "give me my password."

Who will rid me of this inconvenient pest?

I have tried reindexing all individual folders one at a time, and also deleting the sqlite folder and letting it rebuild itself. No luck. The only way I can read my mail is to go to help/troubleshoot mode and read them in troubleshoot mode. Now I have downloaded the update to 128.6.1esr (64-bit) (on Windows 11) and all I get in the main message display area is the "Welcome to Thunderbird" screen. I have several thousand messages in the system, and they're all there, but only visible in troubleshoot mode.

I'm running Win10 and Thunderbird 128.6.0esr. I wanted to move my profile from C: to a different drive (in my case, the D drive). I Googled and got lots of hits, both on the Thunderbird support site and elsewhere, that seemed to indicate to me that some users were seemingly having issues getting this task completed.

Also, looking around in my Windows "AppData" subdirectories, I noticed that there are actually two "profile" directories.

For example: C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles\abcdefgh.default C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\abcdefgh.default

Many of the instructions I found were dated from two years ago or more and only discussed moving one profile directory (the one in "Roaming") and I wondered if, in the interim, there's been an addition of a second profile directory that wasn't being addressed in the "old" instructions I was finding on the Web.

So instead of trying any of the suggested procedures I decided to try something else that seemed to be simpler and more straightforward to me. After performing the process I decided to try, testing seems to indicate it works just fine. However, I thought I'd leave this message to ask if there's some issue that can result by doing it as I did.

All I did was to create a new directory on my D drive to hold to two profile directories. Inside this new directory, I created two subdirectories called "AppData-Local" and "AppData-Roaming" to hold the two respective profile directories. With Thunderbird closed, I then copied the two original profile directories into their new respective directories on the D drive:

D:\Thunderbird Profiles\AppData-Local\abcdefgh.default D:\Thunderbird Profiles\AppData-Roaming\abcdefgh.default

Just to be safe, I then renamed the original profile directories under the "...\AppData\..." directory on C: so that if my idea went south, I could just restore the original configuration easily because they weren't deleted. So the original profile directories became...

C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles\abcdefgh.default.delete_me C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\abcdefgh.default.delete_me

All that was left was to open a Windows "cmd" console window (running as administrator) and create a symbolic link in each of the original directories on the C drive that point to the new locations of the directories on the D drive:

C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles>mklink /D "abcdefgh.default" "D:\Thunderbird Profiles\AppData-Roaming\abcdefgh.default"

C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles>mklink /D "abcdefgh.default" "D:\Thunderbird Profiles\AppData-Local\abcdefgh.default"

(Note that I changed the "current directory" before running each "mklink" command to put the symlink in the right directory.)

Then, I started up Thunderbird and... it was as if nothing happened. Everything (old messages, settings, etc.) was still there exactly as before. So far, my limited testing seems to indicate that this process worked without a hitch. I even tried the Thunderbird "backup profile" feature and it created a zip file that seems to contain a subset of the contents of the "Roaming" profile directory, which I suspect is perhaps all that really needs to be saved in a profile backup? Right?

Just in case, I haven't deleted the original, but renamed, profile directories yet. I thought I'd post this message and see if anyone has a reason why moving the profile to a different drive by this symlink process is a "big mistake." Or even a "little mistake" for that matter.

After a short while (2- 4 minutes), the program freezes and does not display emails.

Is et because I have reach the storage limit for Thunderbird? I have 20 accounts with mails

When setting up Thunderbird, I did not see the radio tick box for removing mail from the server. What will happen now that I have removed about 10000 pieces of email from my local account on my computer's hard drive?

On both my Mac systems, Thunderbird was auto updated to 128.6.1, yet that download is not available anywhere on the Thunderbird sites. Was 128.6.1 released by error?

I use an adblocker that keeps YouTube from displaying advertisements before displaying a video. It works fine. However, when a friend sends me an email with a link to a YouTube video the video always begins with an advertisement when I click on the link. If I copy the link as text and paste it into my browser (Firefox) the ad doesn't appear when I start watching the video.

I'd like to be able to avoid watching the ads. Is there something I can set in Thunderbird to allow the adblocker to work before YouTube starts to display a video?

I sent a post to alt.politics.usa but it isn't downloading from the server a-k.org port 587 even though it should be flat.usenext.de. port 443

But when ever I make changes to the server info for the Newsgroup it changes my email settings.

My old PC crashed but I still have the old TB profile. When I copy that to the new PC the mail is restored but the calendar is blank. How can I import the old events?

Your responses are too inuadating and too many that they become overwhelming.

For the last two weeks I have been experiencing problems with my email accounts in thunderbird.

Some default folders such as templates have disappeared I can't delete folders and subfolders that I have created It takes ages to migrate emails from one folder to another Gmail subfolders have disappeared apart from starred and important No option to 'Empty folder' any longer when you go to the trash so you have to delete each item or hightlight all and do a block delete. My sent box only has recently added sent items - not all in my gmail account I have uninstalled all my accounts from thunderbird the uninstalled Thunderbird three or four times now. Nothing has happened, but when I reinstalled this morning Templates was missing from my newly created email address I created a new folder in my account in thunderbird yesterday, but it has only synched and appeared on my ipad or iphone accounts this morning. Local folders account only has two things in it: Outbox and Deleted I am a real dinosaur with regard to techie issues and just don't know where to start to try and resolve the issues that I am experiencing. Has there been a recent update that has caused all these issues? I set up a new email account this morning thinking I would transfer everything from my existing email account to the new one and ditch my old email address, but both old and new accounts are missing Templates (which I use a lot) I have used Thunderbird for years and it is by the far the nicest email platform that I have ever used and I would like to continue with it as everything is so clear to see and sort. Can anyone help please?
